‘The Dove Campaign for Real Beauty’ is famous for the above commercial because of the depiction of the extent to which advertisements will go in order to portray ‘beauty’, no matter how manufactured or unattainable it may be. However, while Dove’s campaign may tout a positive message, its intentions are purely business based, and considering that they are a large part of the beauty industry they’re attempting to critique, the campaign’s concept has been a source of contention.
So, here is your chance to make your OWN thoughts on real beauty heard.
Submit essays, short stories, scientific research, mathematical treatises, photography, and/or artwork that discuss and show your own idea of realistic beauty and how accurately portrayed it is in various forms of media, including media that claims to represent ‘real beauty’.
You may submit something in more than one category. If your entry is chosen, you will not only be showcased in this blog in January, but also be sent a list of references that deal with your chosen medium. For example, if you send in a piece of fiction, you will be given a list of publishing houses names, addresses, and phone numbers that deal specifically with fiction publishing.
Send all entries to razavi.lee@gmail.com.
Let your creativity run rampant! Best of luck!
