THE INSPIRATION
Ever since I read my first issue of Cosmo, I have always wanted to make a magazine that was the antithesis of a typical ‘woman’s magazine’. Despite these magazines touting positive messages that encourage individuality and self-confidence, these messages also carry undertones where the word ‘negative’ is an understatement. These undertones encourage, both subtly and bluntly, women changing themselves in order to attain so-called individuality and self-confidence, whether the cost be a very lean wallet to a very lean body as the result of a ‘quick loss’ diet plan. In addition to this hypocrisy, there was also encouragement of a self-centered and indulgent lifestyle rather than an intellectual and empathetic one.
I, frankly, do not want to exist in a world where women know more about what certain shade of red lipstick they should wear and not realize that Africa is a continent, not a country.
Wise Woman was originally meant to be an actual flesh and blood (or rather, paper and ink) magazine. However, because of a desire for further accessibility and considering current economic conditions, it was then converted into an online blog that could not only be read easily and for free, but also use various forms of media outside of text and pictures, such as sound bites and videos.
THE GOAL
My goal for this blog is not to spout off heavily liberal or conservative views, but to expose the various problems, solutions, dreams, ambitions, injustices, innovations, bravery, lies, and truths of women all over the world. The articles in this blog aim to offer an objective perspective for readers, and are not meant to tell a reader to feel a certain way or to damn/congratulate them for feeling that certain way. Instead, readers are given a choice that most media takes away, and how that choice is handled outside of that article and this blog is up to them.
